Both are casino-style games with a standard 52-card deck, but they ask different things of you. Blackjack is you against the dealer and the number 21. Hold’em is you against everyone else at the table, and the best hand, or the best bluff, wins the pot.

| The goal | Beat the dealer by finishing closer to 21 without going over. | Make the best five-card hand from your two cards and five shared cards, or make everyone else fold. |
| How you win | Play as many hands as you like; the player with the most chips at the end wins. | In a tournament, play until one player has all the chips; at home, stop at an agreed time and count. |
